Over the festive season I did something I thought I would never do. I stopped blogging and stopped tweeting. Horrific, I know. Truth be told 2011 was a very tiring year and I needed a good break from all things that reminded me of work. I must also say that I missed it, at times it felt a bit like cold turkey!

So this is my first blog post of 2012. Feels great to say that! I’m looking forward to resuming my writing posts on the DigitLab, TomorrowToday, Mike Saunders and Ideate blogs. In fact I am hoping to blog for a fewer new blogs as well so ease feel free to let me know if you have a blog that you would like me to write for.

The Official Launch of DigitLab

Anyway, a time of reflection over the last few weeks has helped me realise what a great job the DigitLab team has done over 2011. We officially launched the company in March of 2011 after rebranding the previous “Mike Saunders Consulting.”

We have helped many clients build substantial social media communities that are engaging and generating return. In fact, one such community grew from zero to 11 000 people in 2011. It just shows that great content, thoughtful strategy and respecting our members always reaps a great return.

In addition to our community building efforts DigitLab successfully launched our Johannesburg office which is now headed up by Catri Dixon. Give us a shout if you are JHB based and would like to chat about social media.

On the innovation front, DigitLab built our first Tertiary College application form on Facebook. This allows students to apply for courses without taking them away from their beloved Facebook account. DigitLab was also instrumental in launching groundbreaking social learning projects and internal social media communications systems for our clients.

Going into 2012 we have a few exciting announcements coming soon. I can’t tell you about this now because that would just spoil the fun.

Engaging in 2012

Seriously though. We have entered into 2012 with a renewed commitment to delivering the best social media and digital strategies possible. We have taken the time to understand our new consumers (your customers) and how our clients can communicate with them and we’re excited to share this with our clients. We stand by our commitment to always consider and value the customer before the platform to ensure the best possible engagement strategies.

To close this post and open up 2012 officially on the DigitLab Socially Speaking blog I would like to leave you with one of my favourite quotes:
