One of DigitLab’s long-standing clients – I Love Ballito – recently approached us to design and brand their new business venture: I Love Ballito Radio.

The process for DigitLab involved manipulating the current I Love Ballito Corporate ID to incorporate a radio feel so that their current fan base (Facebook: 21,151) would easily relate to, trust and obviously start listening to the station.

Former East Coast Radio presenter Mags van der Westhuizen joined Karl Worner and his I Love Ballito Radio team, thereby adding her own professional touch to the project. Being a Ballito girl, I’m sure it was an easy decision for her. The first broadcast aired on the 20th of December and I Love Ballito’s Facebook page shows that, even over the festive season, it gained momentum, with 300+ likes already. Not bad, considering everybody was on the beach that time of the year.

The mere fact that they were able to conceptualise and launch a radio station within two months is testimony to the advances in web and user habits. No longer do you need a radio frequency to have a radio station – no, broadcasting is as easy as registering an account on one of the many streaming services. You then find yourself a few local celebrities to help build your credibility, and off you go. Ballz Radio showcased this last year, with Sasha Martinengo and Darren Scott helping to bolster the line-up on their now successful Visual radio station.
